Jisc Change Agents’ Network

The Jisc Change Agents’ Network (CAN) actively supports a community of practice of students and staff working in partnership on technology related innovation projects and fosters the sharing of best practice. CAN currently offers staff and students across higher and further education and skills an online community of practice, face to face events and webinars. In addition, a newly launched Developing Successful Student Staff Partnerships toolkit and a series of  institutional case studies to provide wider institutional guidance and support for colleges and universities.

CAN Advice and Guidance:

The new Developing Successful Student Staff Partnerships toolkit is intended as a toolkit to help colleges and universities to improve the student digital experience at your institution.  It provides a collection of effective practice resources, guidance, reflection points and tools to help institutions build strong and productive student-staff partnerships to develop the institution’s digital environment. The resources include tools and discussion prompts to help staff to develop a student-staff partnership model suited to their institution.

SEDA Institutional Change Leader Award:

Our new SEDA-accredited Institutional Change Leader course supports staff and students who are working in partnership on technology led curriculum innovation projects in UK further education and skills and higher education. The course is delivered as two online modules via Moodle and a reflective e-portfolio. Further information is available here.

CAN Journal of Educational Innovation, Partnership and Change:

We are delighted to have recently published the 3rd edition of the journal which promotes student partnership working in colleges and universities. We have another 8 excellent papers in this edition and very pleased to have the preface to this edition written by Liz Dunne, currently project director of the REACT project on student engagement.

Jisc-NUS Benchmarking tool – student digital experience:

This benchmarking tool is the latest in a series of resources Jisc has produced to help institutions improve the student experience at your institution. It was produced in collaboration with the National Union of Students (NUS) and The Student Engagement Partnership (TSEP) as part of the Jisc Digital Student Project and the Jisc Change agents’ network. The tool is supports the Jisc online guide Enhancing the Student Digital Experience a holistic approach.

Education & Training Foundation

The Education and Training Foundation is owned by the FE and training sector.  On behalf of the whole sector, three Founder Members appoint the majority of our board. The Founder members are the Association of Colleges (AoC), the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP), and the Association of Adult Education and Training Organisations (AAETO), operating through the Holex and LEAFEA networks.

Our Purpose:

To work with teachers, trainers, leaders and employers to help them deliver excellent further and vocational education and training.

We work with teachers, leaders and businesses to help them deliver excellent Further and Vocational education and training.

We support and enhance the quality, professionalism and efficiency of the education and training system. We champion the professional standards for the sector and help leaders and practitioners to achieve consistently excellent outcomes for learners and employers. We build the capacity for evidence-based education and innovation, including through practitioner-led research.

We use evidence and expertise to commission and deliver programmes of support and improvement with and for professionals working all across Further and Vocational education and training.

We work at a national level with key partners and Government to ensure we can effect powerful change at a local level across the sector.

We have four main areas of work:
Our priorities:
  • Boosting our national capacity to teach Maths and English excellently post-16;
  • Supporting leaders across the system at all levels, with a distinct focus on the area review process, helping them successfully lead change through the challenges ahead;
  • Developing a top quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) system which meets the needs of industry and supports rapid growth in apprenticeships;
  • Supporting practitioners with our individual professional membership service, the Society for Education and Training;
  • Expand the reach and exploit the potential of skills competitions.
